Chapter 9 - The Collision in the Suite

The heavy mahogany doors of the legal suite opened with a soft click, and Andrew walked in. He looked completely unraveled; his tailored suit was rumpled, his hair was out of place, and the arrogant veneer that had defined him in the ballroom vanished the moment he saw his mother and his wife sitting side by side across the conference table.

"What is this?" Andrew demanded, his voice cracking slightly as he looked from Catherine to Emma. "Mother, have you lost your mind? You're helping her tear down our family name?"

"You destroyed the family name, Andrew, long before you kissed that girl in front of the city's press," Catherine said, her voice like ice as she remained seated. "And you did it with stolen signatures and corporate fraud."

Andrew ignored his mother, his eyes locking onto Emma with a desperate, venomous intensity. He walked around the table, stopping just inches from her chair.

"You think you've won, don't you?" Andrew hissed, lowering his voice so it barely carried across the room. "You think you can walk out with my money, my reputation, and my child?"

Emma stood up slowly, matching his height, her gaze unflinching. "It was never your money, Andrew. And the child I'm carrying will never have to learn how to lie to survive in a room like this."

"I am your husband," Andrew snapped, a flash of genuine panic breaking through his anger. "You can't divorce me without my consent—not without a trial that will drag your name through every tabloid in the country."

"The trial won't be about divorce, Andrew," a calm, deep voice interrupted from the doorway.

Marcus Vance stood in the entrance, flanked by two corporate attorneys holding thick black binders. Marcus looked exhausted, his tie missing, his expression hardened into absolute finality.

"The trial will be between the federal government and the board of Weston & Vance," Marcus said, walking into the room and stopping beside Emma. "And as of twenty minutes ago, the board’s legal team has officially turned over all internal communication logs regarding the unauthorized loan distribution—including the power of attorney documents Andrew forged using Emma’s name."

Andrew spun around, staring at his senior partner in utter disbelief. "You sold me out? We built this firm together!"

"You built a house of cards using someone else's name as the foundation, Andrew," Marcus said coldly. "I'm just making sure the roof doesn't fall on the rest of us."

Andrew stood frozen in the center of the room, looking from Marcus to his mother, and finally back to Emma. The trap had snapped shut, not with violence or dramatic chases, but with the quiet, devastating weight of paper and truth. For the first time in his life, Andrew Weston had no leverage left.
