Chapter 10 - The Driveway Confrontation

Twenty minutes later, my sedan swung onto Elm Street, my knuckles white against the steering wheel. Evelyn sat rigidly in the passenger seat, too terrified to speak.

As I turned onto my mother’s block, the scene unfolded like a nightmare. A rusted black sedan was parked sideways across the gravel driveway of the cottage. Two burly men in leather jackets were leaning against the hood, while Sarah and Greg stood near the front porch, both of them pale, weeping, and completely trapped.

When my car came to a halt, Sarah broke away from the men and ran toward my door, screaming hysterically.

“Mom! Help us! They said they’re going to burn the house down if you don't sign the deed over right now!”
