Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Confrontation

Mark was already sitting at the head of the polished conference table when I entered. He looked restless, his fingers drumming a nervous tattoo against the mahogany wood. Next to him sat a sharp-suited attorney from a high-priced downtown firm—a man whose expensive watch and bored expression screamed corporate defense.

Mark looked up as I took a seat directly opposite him. He opened his mouth, expecting the timid, overwhelmed woman he had lived with for thirty-one years.

"Adriana," Mark began, putting on a heavy, patronizing mask of marital concern. "Let's not make a public spectacle of this. My attorney agrees that if we streamline the financial restructuring..."

"Mark, stop talking," I said evenly, cutting him off before he could finish his rehearsed script.

The attorney blinked, adjusting his glasses. "Mrs. Miller, my client is simply attempting to reach an amicable—"

"Counselor," I interrupted, sliding a certified copy of the San Pedro Holdings probate transfer across the table. "Before you speak on behalf of your client, I suggest you review the corporate lineage of Cima Management Services, cross-referenced with Bexar County probate records from 2004, and matched against the Houston escrow account details currently held in my maiden name."

Mark’s face lost all color. The nervous drumming of his fingers stopped dead.

"What... what is this?" the attorney stammered, picking up the folder and scanning the first page. His professional detachment vanished instantly as his eyes tracked the fraudulent signature routing and the twenty-year dividend trail.

"That," I said, leaning forward and resting my arms on the table, "is a complete record of corporate wire fraud, embezzlement of family trust assets, and systematic misrepresentation of marital property. Mark used a shell company to siphon funds from my late father’s estate, masked it as a corporate venture, and used it to finance both his lifestyle and his extramarital relationship."

Mark stood up abruptly, knocking his leather chair backward against the glass wall. "She's lying! She doesn't know what she's talking about—she’s just a housewife!"

"Am I?" I asked quietly, holding my gaze steady against his panic. "I managed eleven children, balanced a household of thirteen on a fraction of what you were embezzling, and mastered supply chain logistics while you were busy being mediocre. You thought you could hide behind my lack of a recent corporate resume, Mark. You forgot that the best logistics managers see the whole board before the pieces even move."

The attorney slowly closed the folder, looked up at Mark with a mixture of disgust and professional self-preservation, and slid his notepad into his briefcase. "Mr. Miller, I suggest we adjourn this meeting immediately. I will not represent clients facing federal asset seizure and corporate fraud charges."
