Chapter 7 - The Digital Leverage

"You think you can threaten us and just wave your hand, Dad?" I said, taking a deliberate step closer to him, keeping my voice terrifyingly calm.

Arthur narrowed his eyes, sensing the shift in my posture. "Chloe, don't be a fool. You have no proof of anything down here that will hold up against my legal team. Your word against mine."

"My word?" I pulled my smartphone from my back pocket, hitting the screen to illuminate a blinking red recording indicator. "Dad, the moment we opened that hidden bookcase upstairs, I started a live-streaming audio upload to a secure cloud server managed by my attorney in downtown Oklahoma City. Every single word you've spoken for the last ten minutes—including your confession about locking Elena in a vault—is currently being transcribed and backed up on three separate servers."

Arthur’s face went completely slack. The cool, unshakable corporate facade finally cracked, exposing the panicked, desperate old man hiding underneath.

"Give me that phone," Arthur snarled, lunging forward with unexpected speed to snatch it from my hand.

Before he could reach me, Glen stepped directly into his path, catching my father by the shoulders and shoving him hard backward against the metal shelving rack. File boxes tumbled down around Arthur in a clattering avalanche of dust and paper.

"Don't you ever touch my wife," Glen warned, his voice low and dangerous.

"Elena, get up," I said, rushing over to the metal stool and grabbing the frail woman by her cold, skeletal hands. "We're getting you out of here. Right now."

Elena looked up at me in sheer disbelief, her eyes wide. "Can... can we really leave? Is the door open?"

"It's open," I said, wrapping my jacket around her shoulders. "And nobody is ever putting you back in that dark room again."

As Glen kept my groaning father pinned against the shelves, I helped Elena stagger toward the stairs. But before we could reach the bottom step, the heavy steel security door at the back of the basement suddenly swung wide open with a loud, echoing clank.

Footsteps echoed from the hidden corridor beyond—fast, sharp, clicking heels.

A figure appeared in the doorway, stopping dead in her tracks as she took in the chaotic scene: Arthur pinned against the shelves, Elena wrapped in my jacket, and me standing at the foot of the stairs.

It was Clara.

She wasn't holding a phone to call the police. In her right hand, she gripped a heavy, steel-plated security flashlight like a club, her face twisted in a mask of absolute, venomous fury.

"You stupid, ungrateful little bitch," Clara hissed, her voice dripping with pure poison as she raised the heavy flashlight and stepped out of the vault. "You just had to stick your nose where it didn't belong, didn't you?"
