He didn't even hesitate.

The moment the first heavy drop of rain struck the deck, Lucas’s expression twisted into a mask of pure, ugly greed. All the months of pretending to adore me, all the whispered sweet nothings, melted away into the desperate hunger of a man who was about to inherit three hundred million dollars.

“Goodbye, heiress,” he sneered, his hands shoving hard against my chest.

My body flew backward over the chrome railing.

The wind roared in my ears. For a fraction of a second, weightless and suspended between the stormy sky and the churning black ocean, I saw his triumphant, smiling face looking down at me from the stern.

I broke the surface fifty yards behind the receding yacht, gasping for air as the rain poured down in sheets.

From the stern of the Azure Horizon, I could see Lucas standing victoriously by the railing, raising a glass of champagne in a silent toast to the empty ocean before turning and heading back inside to join his parents.
