Chapter 7 - The Blueprint for Destruction

I unlatched the security chain, pulled the front door wide open, and snatched the manila envelope off the table. The man gave a slight nod of acknowledgment, turned around, and walked briskly down the steps toward the idling black sedan without another word.

I slammed the door shut, locked the deadbolt, and carried the envelope straight into the kitchen where Chloe was still resting peacefully on the couch, her breathing steady and quiet.

Sitting down at the small wooden kitchen table, I tore open the flap and spilled the contents across the surface.

A cascade of crisp, printed legal documents tumbled out: certified bank routing records, corporate shell company registrations linking Fiona's salon to three different fraudulent grant applications, and a draft acquisition agreement prepared by Rhodes Capital. But right on top was a personal note written on heavy, cream-colored cardstock in sharp, decisive fountain pen ink.

E, the note began. A thief who takes from a mother and a child deserves no quarter. Sign the attached asset transfer authorization, and my legal team will ensure George and Fiona are stripped of every corporate asset, bank account, and legal defense within forty-eight hours. Let's reclaim what is yours.

I stared at the signature at the bottom: Julian Rhodes.

The sheer audacity of it left me breathless. It was a complete, merciless corporate execution plan tailored precisely to the wreckage George and Fiona had left in their wake. They thought they could bleed me dry while I was away serving a military hospital deployment, hiding behind family ties and forged signatures. They had no idea what kind of storm they had invited into their lives.

My phone buzzed violently against the wooden table.

May you like

It was George calling again.
