Chapter 4 - The Private Hangar

The cool night air of Dallas hit my face like a refreshing shock as Nolan escorted me down the private access ramp of Dallas Love Field. The stark white fuselage of a Gulfstream G700 sat gleaming under the floodlights, its jet engines hissing a low, rhythmic turbine song.

A medical transport team was already waiting at the base of the folding stairs, holding a lightweight orthopedic transfer chair.

"I can walk, Nolan," I muttered, gritting my teeth against the throbbing ache in my ribs.

"Doctor's orders, Miss Bellamy," Nolan replied gently, his tone brooking no argument. "Mr. Bellamy would have my head if I let you walk a single step after what those animals did to you."

"Is my father in Boston?" I asked, settling carefully into the transfer chair as the medical staff wheeled me up the ramp into the luxurious cabin of the private jet.

"He’s waiting at Logan, ma'am," Nolan said, stepping into the cabin behind me and sealing the heavy pressurized cabin door shut with a satisfying hydraulic thud. "And he has been briefed on every single detail of what transpired in Dallas over the last forty-eight hours."

I closed my eyes as the jet began to taxi smoothly away from the terminal. For four years, I had lived in a gilded cage of my own making, trying so hard to prove that I could be loved for me that I had allowed myself to be diminished, abused, and nearly killed.

Now, the armor was back on. And the people who had tried to crush me were about to find out what happens when you awaken a sleeping giant.

The jet surged forward down the runway, the powerful engines roaring as we lifted off into the dark Texas sky, banking sharply toward the northeast.

Inside the cabin, my phone buzzed continuously on the mahogany table before me.

Missed Call: Reid Kessler (14)

New Message: Reid

Text: Audrey, please answer me. We can talk. Don't do this to us. Tessa lied to me, I swear she did!

I picked up the phone, watched the screen light up with another desperate incoming call from my husband, and calmly tapped a single button on the interface.

Block Contact.

Then I opened my encrypted email client. A flash report from Bellamy Holdings’ legal division was waiting at the top of my inbox, bearing a subject line that made a cold, sharp smile touch my lips:
