Chapter 6 - The Foreclosure Notice

The morning sun over downtown Dallas did little to warm the cold, suffocating panic inside Reid Kessler’s corporate office.
Reid stood staring blankly at his computer screen, watching the electronic trading accounts flash a uniform, bleeding red. Every single line of credit, every corporate bond, and every liquidity reserve had been locked down with a curt, computerized notification: Account Frozen – Bellamy Holdings Legal Directive 88-B.
"Mr. Kessler?"
The door to his executive suite swung open without a knock. Marcus Vance, Kessler Development's senior chief financial officer, stood there looking like he had just aged ten years overnight. He held a thick stack of certified legal papers in his trembling hand.
"What is it, Marcus?" Reid snapped, his voice tight and ragged, his eyes bloodshot from a sleepless night of screaming at lawyers who had suddenly stopped returning his calls. "Did the bankruptcy filing go through? Have we secured an emergency injunction against those Boston bastards?"
Marcus swallowed hard, stepping into the room and laying the heavy stack of papers squarely on the center of the mahogany desk.
"There is no bankruptcy filing, Reid," Marcus whispered, his voice shaking. "Because the courts won't accept it. Bellamy Holdings didn't just freeze our accounts. They executed a master-tier debt acceleration clause built into the original venture capital underwriting agreement from five years ago."
Reid frowned, walking around the desk to look at the paperwork. "What are you talking about? That agreement was underwritten by an independent fund called Sterling Capital!"
"Sterling Capital was a wholly owned shell subsidiary of Bellamy Holdings," Marcus said, his eyes wide with despair. "They owned the underlying debt on every single commercial property, residential development, and luxury asset we've built since day one. And thirty minutes ago... they foreclosed on the entire portfolio."
The words hit Reid like a physical blow. He staggered backward, his hand catching the edge of the desk to steady himself. "Foreclosed? All of it? The luxury towers? The downtown plazas?"
"All of it," Marcus repeated softly. "And legally, Reid... we are currently trespassing in our own building."
Before Reid could process the sheer scale of the ruin, the double glass doors of his office shattered inward with a deafening crash. Four uniformed federal marshals, flanked by two private security contractors wearing Bellamy insignia, marched into the room.
The lead officer stepped forward, pulling a heavy set of steel handcuffs from his tactical belt.

"Reid Kessler," the marshal announced coldly. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, asset concealment, and conspiracy to commit white-collar embezzlement."
