Chapter 10 - The Sunrise Counter-Attack

The digital clock on the hospital wall ticked past 4:00 AM, bleeding the dark midnight sky into a pale, bruised violet across the horizon.

I sat propped up against my pillows, Marisol’s phone resting safely in my lap, while the quiet hum of the hospital corridor outside was suddenly broken by the distinct, heavy thud of tactical boots running down the hallway.

Bang! Bang!

The door to my room flew open, slamming against the wall.

It wasn't Julian Vance.

David Thorne stood in the doorway, dressed in a tactical black windbreaker, flanked by three armed operatives holding secure digital comms units. His eyes scanned the room instantly, assessing every corner before locking onto me.

"We got the ping, boss," David said, stepping briskly to the side of my bed and handing me a ruggedized satellite terminal. "Apex intelligence servers intercepted the Cayman transfer routing logs two minutes ago. Julian Vance's brother just tried to execute the final withdrawal. We froze their accounts before the wire hit Switzerland."

A cold, victorious smile finally broke across my face.

"Good," I whispered, my voice returning to its razor-sharp edge. "Now, let's reverse the routing keys and redirect every single dollar of Julian's personal Swiss assets directly into the hospital's children's charity fund."

David grinned, tapping a command into his tablet. "Done."

"And David?" I added, looking toward the hallway where Julian’s private security guards were currently being zip-tied by my extraction team. "Bring Julian to me. I want to explain to him personally what happens when you steal from someone who has nothing left to lose."
