Chapter 8 - The Desperate Intruder

"Sabrina!" Bridget shrieked, her voice echoing shrilly off the glass walls of the boardroom. "You little witch! You planned this! You set up Gavin and Mason just to steal the company out from under our feet!"
The security guards caught up to her, grabbing her arms firmly, but Bridget thrashed wildly, pointing a shaking finger straight at the head of the table.
"Let me go!" she screamed at the guards. Then, looking back at Sabrina, her face twisted with fury and panic. "You think you’ve won? Mason is already cooperating with the federal prosecutor's office! He’s handing over documents that prove you signed off on corporate tax structures three years ago! You’re just as legally exposed as we are!"
Sabrina didn't flinch. She didn't raise her voice. She simply picked up her gold-plated fountain pen and twirled it slowly between her fingers, watching Bridget with the calm detachment of a scientist observing a trapped insect.
"Bridget," Sabrina said softly, her tone carrying an icy stillness that somehow cut through the screaming. "Your husband Mason spent yesterday afternoon trying to flee to the Cayman Islands on a private charter flight funded by embezzled corporate funds. He was intercepted by federal marshals at the Minneapolis-St. Paul international terminal before his wheels even left the tarmac."
Bridget’s breath caught in her throat. The wild defiance in her eyes suddenly shattered, replaced by cold, terrifying reality.
"And as for tax structures signed three years ago," Sabrina continued, leaning back in her chair, "every single document from that era bears my maiden name and my official title as Chief Compliance Architect—a title Gavin legally stripped away from me to hide his own liability. My signature was countersigned by independent legal counsel, while Mason’s forged signatures on your recent loan documents were executed without my knowledge or consent. The FBI’s forensic handwriting experts finished verifying those forgeries at eleven this morning."
Bridget staggered backward, the security guards steadying her arms to keep her from falling. The last remnants of her arrogance evaporated into thin air, leaving her looking small, pathetic, and utterly defeated.
"Get her out of my building," Sabrina commanded quietly.
"Wait—Sabrina, please!" Bridget sobbed as the guards turned her around and began marching her down the executive hallway. "Gavin is your husband! How can you do this to him? How can you destroy our family over a—over a stupid car scratch?!"
The heavy doors clicked shut, cutting off Bridget’s weeping cries.
The boardroom remained dead silent for several seconds. Nobody moved. Nobody spoke. They looked at Sabrina with a completely new level of awe and terror. This wasn't the quiet, overlooked wife who used to bring coffee to board meetings. This was a ruthless, calculating strategist who had patiently allowed her enemies to hang themselves with their own rope.
Marcus cleared his throat quietly. "Shall we resume the audit review, Ms. Miller?"

"Please, Marcus," Sabrina replied, her expression serene once more. "Let's."
