Chapter 10 - The Trap Springs

“Well, well, well,” a cold, smooth voice echoed from the shadows behind the rusted cranes.

Heavy footsteps crunched against the snow as two men in tailored suits stepped out from behind a concrete bulkhead. In the lead, holding a sleek black firearm pointed directly at us, was Dominic Moretti—the CEO of Moretti Logistics. And right beside him, looking pale, terrified, and wheezing slightly in the freezing wind, was my father, Richard Vale, wrapped in a hospital blanket.

“Dad?” I gasped, turning around in absolute shock. “What are you doing here? You were supposed to be at Northwestern Memorial!”

Richard looked at me, his face twisted in desperate, pathetic terror. “I’m sorry, Elena... they pulled me out of the ward! They said if I didn't bring them to Arthur’s decryption keys, we’d all be dead by morning!”

Dominic Moretti smiled, a cold, predatory smirk that didn't reach his eyes as he cocked his weapon.

“Family reunions are always so touching,” Dominic said smoothly, stepping closer while keeping the barrel leveled right between Arthur and me. “Too bad nobody gets to leave this pier alive.”
