Chapter 5 - The Wedding Crashers

Before Daniel’s hand could make contact, two burly venue security guards—disguised in catering uniforms but moving with tactical precision—intervened, slamming Daniel’s arms behind his back and forcing him facedown onto the banquet table. Silver handcuffs clicked shut around his wrists with a sharp, definitive snap.

The ballroom erupted into sheer chaos. Guests scrambled backward, overturning chairs and whispering in mounting shock as federal badges flashed under the crystal chandeliers.

Chloe stood frozen in the center of the wreckage, abandoned by the man she had traded her family for, staring down at the wooden crate filled with fifteen years of discarded memories. She looked up slowly, her eyes brimming with genuine, desperate tears as she reached out a trembling hand toward me.

“Luca... please,” Chloe choked out, her voice a pathetic whisper. “You know me. We were married. Help me... tell them it’s a mistake.”

I stopped just a few feet away from her, looking down at the woman who had once told me I could never offer her anything.

“You were right about one thing, Chloe,” I said softly, my voice carrying the weight of a decade and a half of unwavering love for my six daughters. “I couldn't give you the life you wanted. But I gave them everything that mattered.”

I turned my back on her, offering my arm to my daughter as the federal agents hauled Daniel away toward the exit.

“Come on, Jessi,” I said, smiling warmly at my oldest girl. “Let’s go start the reception.”
