Chapter 7 - The Architect of the Fall

Julian didn't even flinch. He simply lifted his head, sliding off the edge of the bed and stepping smoothly between Roman and Celeste with the calculated precision of a man who had anticipated this exact confrontation for years.
Celeste, however, didn't look afraid. She pulled the baby closer to her chest, her chin lifting with that same unbreakable, steady resolve Roman had watched walk out of his penthouse hours earlier.
“Roman,” Julian said, his tone entirely level, almost conversational. “You’re late. We expected you around dawn, but I suppose traffic on Michigan Avenue is brutal this time of morning.”
“You,” Roman breathed, his voice dropping into a lethal, quiet register as he closed the distance between them until they were chest-to-chest. “You son of a bitch. You sat across my desk every single day advising me on asset protection while you were sleeping with my wife and fathering her child?”
“Not just sleeping with her, Roman,” Julian corrected smoothly, adjusting his cuffs without breaking eye contact. “I was helping her reclaim what was rightfully hers. Every offshore account, every hidden shell company, every corporate subsidiary you thought was locked behind your cryptographic keys? I drafted them. I know where every body is buried because I was the one who dug the graves.”

Roman’s fist clenched so hard his knuckles turned white. He looked past Julian’s shoulder at his wife. “Celeste. You let him—?”
“Stop talking, Roman,” Celeste interrupted, her voice cutting through the sterile room like broken glass. She looked at him with those dry, exhausted eyes—eyes that held no lingering love, no fear, and no forgiveness. “You stopped being a husband the year after we married. You made this empire out of blood and deceit, and you expected me to sit in a glass cage upstairs and look pretty while you whored across the city. Well, I decided I wasn't going to raise my child in a mausoleum.”
