Chapter 10 - The Unseen Architect

The penthouse apartment was entirely empty of Sloane Bennett’s presence, but the air still felt heavy with the ghost of what had been.

I walked through the silent rooms, my heels clicking rhythmically against the polished hardwood floors. I didn't pack my bags tonight. Instead, I sat down at the glass-topped desk in the master study, booted up my private laptop, and opened a secure terminal that connected directly to an off-shore encrypted server.

For fifteen years, I had believed I was the invisible architect holding up the Vale dynasty.

I was wrong. I wasn't the architect. I was the foundation. And a foundation can choose to stand—or it can choose to let the entire structure crumble into the sea.

My phone buzzed on the desk.

It was an incoming encrypted communication from an international financial routing number I hadn't seen in a decade—the same private network used by my estranged older sister, Chloe, who had supposedly vanished to London ten years ago.

I opened the message with trembling fingers.

There was no text this time. Just a single digital document attached to the file: a fully executed, unassailable global equity transfer assigning fifty-one percent voting control of Vale Meridian Group—not to Arthur Vance, not to Adrian, and not to me.

To Chloe Whitman.

And right beneath her signature was a single line of encrypted metadata: The game is just beginning, little sister. Open the door.
