Chapter 10 - The Ledger Balanced

The silence in the boardroom was absolute. You could hear the faint hum of the skyscraper’s central ventilation system thirty floors above the street.
Dominic gripped the edge of the mahogany table, his knuckles turning white, his chest heaving as he tried desperately to recover his composure.
“It’s a bluff,” Dominic spat, his voice cracking slightly as he looked around the room at the stunned faces of the board members. “Don't listen to him! He’s using intimidation tactics! He’s paralyzed—he can’t run a multi-million-dollar shipping empire from a wheelchair!”
“Try me,” I said softly.
I reached into the inner pocket of my jacket, pulled out a thick, leather-bound flash drive, and tossed it across the table directly in front of Henderson.
“That drive contains every wire transfer, every offshore Cayman routing number, and every forged corporate signature executed by my dear cousin and my former fiancée over the last six months,” I announced, letting each word land with crushing weight. “Including the logs linking our logistics terminals to Dr. Harrison’s illegal adoption and medical trafficking ring.”
Henderson plugged the drive into the conference table’s media console with trembling fingers. Within seconds, a massive digital display on the far wall lit up with cascading financial records, bank statements, and email transcripts bearing Dominic’s personal cryptographic signature.
Gasps echoed around the room. Several board members pushed their chairs back in horror.
“Securities fraud, corporate espionage, and conspiracy to commit asset misappropriation,” Silas added quietly from the doorway, resting his hand casually inside his coat pocket. “Federal marshals are currently waiting downstairs to escort Mr. Vance to a federal holding facility. Unless, of course, he’d prefer to walk out the service stairs on his own two feet.”
Dominic looked from the glowing display on the wall down to me, his face twisted in a mask of pure, unadulterated terror. He knew the game was over. The empire hadn't crumbled; it had just eaten its own traitors.
Without saying a single word, Dominic turned on his heel and bolted for the side exit, nearly tripping over his own Italian leather shoes as he scrambled out of the room.
I didn't bother watching him run.
I turned my wheelchair around, facing the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that overlooked the sprawling, bustling harbor of New York City below. The ships were moving out toward the open Atlantic, their cargo cranes rhythmically loading containers under the morning sun.
My legs still didn't move. The spinal cord was still healing, the road back to standing was still long and brutal, and Arya was sitting back at the mansion waiting for an eviction notice she hadn't seen coming.

But as I reached out and rested my hand firmly on the polished wood of the boardroom table, I knew one thing for certain:
The Corvino empire belonged to me again. And anyone who thought a bullet could stop me was about to find out how wrong they were.
