Chapter 10 - The Convergence at Pier Nine

Twenty minutes later, an unmarked black utility van rolled quietly out of the municipal rail yard maintenance shed near Harbor City’s industrial docks, its engine purring with subdued power.

In the passenger seat, Emma watched the neon signs of the waterfront blur past through the rain-spattered windshield. In the back, secured with heavy anchor straps, Dominic sat upright in his chair, his submachine gun disassembled and cleaned across his lap while Ethan drove the vehicle with ruthless, high-speed focus.

“Richard’s main financial handler is currently securing the transfer paperwork at the Pier Nine administrative office,” Ethan reported, his eyes darting to the rear-view mirror to check for tails. “He thinks Dominic is dead or trapped in the estate.”

“He’s about to get a rude awakening,” Dominic murmured, snapping the bolt carrier group back into place with a crisp, metallic click. He looked toward Emma, who was quietly wrapping a strip of clean cloth around her grazed knuckles. “You have the key?”

Emma tapped her coat pocket, feeling the cold, familiar edges of the silver metal. “Always.”

“Good,” Dominic said, his dark eyes fixed on the distant, fog-shrouded cranes of Pier Nine looming against the gray harbor skyline. “Because when we walk through those doors, we aren't just taking back my empire. We’re going to show Richard what happens when a wounded animal decides to hunt the pack.”

The van accelerated down the empty container-truck lane, plunging headlong into the shadows of the docks as the rain began to fall harder, washing away the blood of the morning's betrayal.
