Chapter 1 - The Escalation of Privilege

The air in the first-class cabin felt suddenly dense, the kind of heavy stillness that precedes a violent summer storm. Every eye was locked onto the window seat where Simone Sterling sat, her posture straight, her gaze fixed entirely on the flight attendant whose face had twisted from casual arrogance into hardened malice.
"You heard me," the flight attendant snapped, her voice rising an octave as she realized people were watching. She reached out, her hand shooting forward to grab the sleeve of Simone's cashmere blazer to haul her out of the seat. "I said, get up. We don't need your kind disrupting the flight before we even push back from the gate."
The physical contact was deliberate. It crossed the line from verbal hostility into assault.
Several passengers gasped. In the third row, a businessman instinctively half-raised his hand as if to intervene, while a woman across the aisle pulled her phone out faster, her camera lens capturing the exact second the flight attendant's fingers dug into Simone's fabric.
Simone didn't flinch. She didn't scream, and she didn't thrash. Instead, with terrifying, liquid-smooth precision, she caught the flight attendant's wrist mid-grip. Her fingers clamped down with an unexpected, iron-tight pressure that instantly wiped the smirk off the employee's face.
"Do not touch me," Simone said. Her voice was barely above a whisper, yet it cut through the cabin with the sharp authority of a judge handing down a life sentence.
The flight attendant tried to yank her arm back, but Simone’s grip held firm. Color drained from the attendant's cheeks as a sudden flash of panic flickered in her eyes. "Let go of me! Assault! Passenger assault!" she shrieked, playing a card she thought would instantly turn the cabin against the Black woman who dared to resist.
"You put your hands on a paying passenger," Simone said, her amber-brown eyes flashing with cold fire. She released the wrist with a sharp shove that sent the attendant stumbling backward against the bulkhead. "And now, you're going to call the captain."
"I'm calling airport security!" the flight attendant snarled, rubbing her wrist, her chest heaving as she backed down the aisle toward the galley. "You're getting dragged off this plane in handcuffs, you hear me? Both of you!"
The passenger seated directly beside Simone—an elderly man in a tweed suit—let out a long, shaky breath. "Good God, young lady. I'm so sorry. I've been flying this route for thirty years, and I've never seen such blatant..."
"Thank you, sir," Simone interrupted gently, her composure instantly returning as she smoothed down her blazer sleeve. She picked up her tablet, her fingers tapping across the screen with calm, deliberate focus. "It's quite alright. Some people simply don't realize who they're sharing airspace with."

Before the elderly man could ask what she meant, the forward galley curtain parted violently, and a towering, silver-haired captain stepped into the first-class cabin, flanked by two armed aviation security officers.
