Chapter 5 - The Trap Closes

The red and blue emergency lights washed the concrete walls in a frantic, rhythmic strobe. Heavy boots slammed against the gravel outside the silo doors, followed by a bullhorn crackling through the freezing air.
“FBI! Federal warrant! Secure all exits!”
Daniel didn't flinch. His eyes remained locked on Vincent, who stood behind Elena with the heavy wrench still poised in his hand.
"Looks like your philanthropic career just hit a dead end, Daniel," Vincent sneered, pressing the cold iron edge of the wrench against Elena’s shoulder. "Drop the piece. Let the feds walk in and find the former mafia boss holding a gun over a hostage. By morning, your name, your foundation, and your precious little daughters will be buried so deep nobody will ever find them."
Elena stirred, lifting her head slowly. Her eyes met Daniel’s across the cold concrete floor. She didn't scream. She didn't beg. She just shook her head slightly, whispering through bruised, cracked lips: “Run.”
Daniel’s finger tightened around the trigger. He could hear the heavy crash of federal agents breaking through the outer iron doors at the end of the long corridor, shouting commands, boots thundering against the concrete floor.
"You think the feds are my only problem?" Daniel said quietly, his voice cutting through the rising chaos of the approaching agents.
Vincent frowned. "What are you talking about?"
Before Vincent could react, the high reinforced windows of the silo shattered inward in a shower of glass and rusted iron. Three masked figures dropped silently from the rafters on heavy nylon ropes, landing squarely behind Vincent’s two armed guards. Before the thugs could raise their weapons, muffled suppressors coughed twice in rapid succession. Both men dropped to the floor without a sound.
Vincent spun around in sheer disbelief, his grip on the wrench slipping. "What—who is—?"
"The North End doesn't take kindly to ghosts coming back to steal their turf," Daniel said coldly, stepping forward and leveling his pistol directly at his brother's chest.
Footsteps echoed wildly just outside the inner doorway—the FBI agents were less than thirty seconds away, breaching the final interior bulkhead.
Vincent looked down at the gun barrel, then up at Daniel’s face, realizing too late that he had underestimated the monster his brother had spent twenty years trying to hide.
"You shoot me, Daniel, and you'll spend the rest of your life in a federal box," Vincent hissed, his face twisted in panic.

"I'm already dead, Vincent," Daniel replied, his finger beginning to squeeze the trigger. "The only question is whether you go with me."
Suddenly, the heavy steel door flew off its hinges as an FBI tactical team swarmed the room, flash-bang grenades clattering onto the concrete floor between them with blinding, deafening concussions.
