Chapter 9 - Collision

The morning sun cast long, harsh shadows across the granite steps of the NASDAQ building in Times Square.

By 8:15 AM, a swarm of financial journalists, camera crews, and tech reporters had gathered behind the barricades, drawn by the unexpected emergency summons issued by Catherine Vance on behalf of the primary stakeholders. Rumors of a massive internal collapse at Holloway Enterprises had leaked overnight, driving pre-market shares down by thirty percent.

Inside a black town car idling across the street, Grant Holloway stared out the tinted window at the media circus. His phone buzzed continuously—text messages from board members, frantic emails from institutional investors, and a final, unread message from Thomas Sterling demanding to know why his deposition hadn't been signed and returned.

Grant hadn't signed it. When faced with the choice between becoming Thomas Sterling's errand boy or going down fighting, his stubborn, ego-driven pride had rebelled. But now, sitting in the damp chill of the car, he realized he had nowhere left to run.

The car door suddenly opened.

It wasn't a process server. It was Marcus Vance, holding an umbrella to shield himself from the fine morning drizzle. Marcus pulled the door open further, looking down at Grant with a neutral, professional expression.

"Victoria wants to see you," Marcus said.

Grant looked up, startled. "See me? Where? At the hospital?"

"No," Marcus said, stepping aside to reveal a private entrance leading into the side of the building where the press conference was about to begin. "Right here. She's patched into the master broadcast feed from her hospital room."

Grant hesitated, then stepped out of the car, his designer coat dampening in the rain. He followed Marcus through the side doors, navigating a labyrinth of back hallways until they reached a temporary green room equipped with a massive wall monitor and a live broadcast feed.

On the screen, Catherine Vance stood at the podium outside, facing a sea of flashing camera lights and shouting reporters.

"Effective immediately," Catherine's crisp voice echoed through the speakers, "Holloway Enterprises as currently structured is being dissolved. All primary intellectual property, patent portfolios, and core software architecture are being transferred in full to the Holloway Children's Trust, managed exclusively by Victoria Holloway."

A roar of questions erupted from the press corps. From the back of the room, Thomas Sterling pushed his way through the crowd, his face purple with fury, realizing too late that his trap had been entirely dismantled by a counter-strike he never saw coming.

The screen flickered, splitting to show a live video feed directly from Room 412 of the hospital.

Victoria was propped up in her bed, the steady beep of the heart monitor audible beneath her calm, measured breathing. Beside her, the three isolettes caught the studio light.

The camera zoomed in on her face. She wasn't looking at the camera; she was looking directly at the monitor feed where Grant stood in the back of the green room.

"You thought you could sign away your family and keep your empire, Grant," Victoria's voice rang out clearly through the broadcast system, heard by millions of viewers across the financial network. "You thought an empire could be built on ambition alone, without a foundation."

Grant stared at the screen, his chest tightening as the entire world watched his life disintegrate into public view.

"The company is gone, Grant," Victoria said quietly, her eyes locked onto his through the lens. "And you are no longer a partner, an owner, or a husband. But before you figure out what's left of your life, there is one final question you need to answer."

She paused, the entire financial news network falling into absolute, breathless silence.

"The divorce papers you signed in the hospital corridor last night... did you honestly believe I didn't keep copies of every single hidden asset you transferred to the Caymans over the last three years?"
