Chapter 10 - The Breach

The circular piece of glass hit the carpeted floor inside the master bedroom, rolling quietly toward the bed.

A gloved hand reached through the opening, fingers flicking the interior latch with practiced, chilling efficiency. The balcony door swung open wide, letting in a howling gust of freezing wind and rain that whipped the curtains into a wild, frantic dance.

Two figures stepped into the red-lit room, dressed entirely in matte black tactical gear, their faces hidden behind dark balaclavas. Neither of them spoke. They moved with the cold, mechanical precision of professional operatives, their eyes scanning the room before locking instantly onto Nathan and me.

Nathan gripped the brass poker tighter, his knuckles turning stark white. "Get out of my house," he warned, his voice deep, steady, and vibrating with pure fury.

The lead operative didn't answer. He simply reached to his hip, drawing a heavy, suppressed automatic weapon with a smooth, practiced motion.

"Mr. Carter," a synthesized, distorted voice came through the operative's tactical comm-unit. "Step away from the asset. The transfer was never authorized."

I gripped the edge of the dresser, my heart hammering against my ribs, realizing with terrifying clarity that the world of billionaire luxury I had married into was just a glittering veneer hiding a war I knew nothing about.

Before the operative could raise his weapon, Nathan lunged forward with the speed of a striking animal.
