Chapter 4 - The Fall of Razor

"I'm fine, Captain," Martha said, standing up without any assistance, her movements suddenly sharp, balanced, and entirely devoid of the frailty she had feigned for seventy-eight days. She brushed off her prison jumpsuit, tucking the photograph carefully into her pocket. "Though my accommodations here leave much to be desired. The plumbing in Block C is a federal violation."
Captain Miller—no, Captain Hayes—nodded sharply, signaling two marshals. "Secure the area. Detain inmate Razor and her associates immediately under federal obstruction and assault charges."
"Wait! You can't do that!" Razor shrieked as two heavy-set marshals grabbed her arms, twisting them behind her back with brutal efficiency. "She started it! She pretended to be weak!"
"She didn't pretend anything, inmate," Hayes snapped, cuffing Razor with a heavy click of steel. "You just assaulted the sitting chair of the Federal Penal Oversight and Reform Commission."
As Razor was dragged kicking and screaming across the concrete yard, the remaining inmates scattered like startled birds, realizing the terrifying magnitude of what had just unfolded. Lumina’s security grid—the very system Warden Vance and his corrupt cronies had used to manipulate inmate files for decades—began flashing red across every monitor in the complex. The internal locks had been overridden from an external terminal.
Martha turned her gaze toward the administration building, her eyes locked on the second-story window where Warden Vance was frantically shredding documents.
"He's destroying the ledgers," Martha noted calmly, looking at Captain Hayes.
"He won't get far, Director," Hayes replied, gesturing toward the main entrance. "The state attorney general's office is already securing the master archives. But there's one problem."
Martha raised an eyebrow. "Speak, Captain."
"The primary ledger—the one containing the offshore accounts and the signatures of every judge who participated in the 1974 conspiracy—isn't in the administrative safe," Hayes said grimly. "It was moved twenty-four hours ago to a private vault in downtown Minneapolis. And the only person who has the cryptographic key to unlock it is Warden Vance's primary silent partner."

Martha’s lips curved into a cold, dangerous smile. "Then it's a good thing I brought my own key."
