Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Queen

Two weeks later, the morning air was crisp and clear, carrying the faint, sweet scent of blooming jasmine from the garden as I stood on my front porch holding a steaming mug of coffee.
The house was entirely quiet—a peaceful, golden silence that felt like heaven. Inside, Skylar was upstairs happily painting her bedroom walls a vibrant, joyful shade of purple, singing softly to herself as pop music played from her small bedside radio.
My phone buzzed gently on the wooden porch railing. I picked it up and unlocked the screen.
A notification from Marcus Vance popped up:
Marcus: Federal indictments officially locked in today for Brandon, Gertrude, and Hailey. Plea deals are already off the table due to the severity of the financial fraud and asset theft. Jessica Moore agreed to full cooperation in exchange for a reduced civil liability settlement. As for the house and your primary accounts? Completely unencumbered, restored, and legally locked down under your sole name. You won, Charlotte.
I stared at the screen, a slow, radiant smile spreading across my face.
I didn't feel broken anymore. I didn't feel exhausted, or invisible, or trapped. Every single obstacle they had thrown in my path had been systematically dismantled, crushed, and swept away. I had protected my daughter, secured my home, and reclaimed my life with my own two hands.
"Mom!" Skylar’s voice floated down from the upstairs hallway, bright and full of life. "Come look! The purple wall looks amazing!"

"Coming, sweetheart!" I called out, taking one final sip of my coffee before setting the mug down on the railing.
I turned around, opened the front door, and walked back inside my home—fully stepping into a future that belonged entirely to us.
