Chapter 10 - The Final Reckoning

Vivienne looked like a wraith from a nightmare. Her hair, previously styled to absolute perfection, hung in tangled, damp clumps around her pale face. Her expensive white silk gown was caked in dried mud at the hem, and her manicured hands were raw and bleeding, as if she had been clawing her way through the estate's outer security gates on foot.
"You..." Vivienne hissed, her voice a cracked, hysterical whisper as she stared past Ronan into the warm, glowing expanse of the penthouse. Her eyes locked instantly onto Ivy standing near the glass wall. "You filthy, conniving bitch! You stole my life! You stole my engagement, my father's empire, everything!"
Ronan stepped out into the hallway, blocking her path entirely. His tall frame filled the narrow corridor, and his hand remained resting casually near his holster, though his dark eyes radiated a killing cold that made the temperature in the hallway plummet.
"How did you get past the perimeter security, Vivienne?" Ronan asked, his voice dangerously quiet.
"I walked!" Vivienne shrieked, tears carving pale tracks through the caked powder on her cheeks. She lunged forward, but Ronan didn't flinch; he simply raised one hand, his fingers closing around her upper arm with a grip like a vice, halting her momentum instantly. "I walked through the woods for four hours! Your guards are incompetent pigs! Just like her!" She pointed a shaking, bloodied finger at Ivy. "She's a servant! A fat, common kitchen maid! You can't marry her—you can't replace me with trash!"
Ivy walked slowly out of the penthouse into the hallway, stopping a few paces behind Ronan. She looked at Vivienne not with anger, nor with fear, but with a profound, chilling pity.
"You still don't understand, Vivienne, do you?" Ivy said, her voice cutting cleanly through the hysterical woman's sobs. "You think my value was measured by a uniform or a title. You think Ronan chose me because I replaced you."
She took another step forward, her charcoal-grey suit fitting her frame with absolute, uncompromising authority.
"He didn't replace you with a maid, Vivienne," Ivy continued, her dark eyes locking onto the trembling woman with absolute command. "He replaced a parasite with a partner."
Vivienne let out a choked, manic laugh, her eyes wild with despair. "Partner? You think he loves you? Men like Ronan Blackwood don't love anyone! He'll destroy you the moment you cross him—he'll throw you out just like he threw out my father!"
"Try me," a voice growled from the end of the dark hallway.
Heavy footsteps echoed up the service stairwell. Three armed security guards materialized out of the shadows, their rifles lowered but ready, their faces grim. 2
Ronan didn't even look back at them. He simply tightened his grip on Vivienne’s arm, lifting her slightly off her feet as he turned her toward the elevator.
"Take her off Blackwood property," Ronan ordered his men coldly. "If she crosses the perimeter fence again, do not call me. Handle it permanently."
"No! Ronan! You can't do this to me!" Vivienne screamed, her voice echoing frantically down the marble corridor as the guards grabbed her arms and dragged her toward the service lift. "You'll regret this! You'll all regret this!"
The elevator doors slid shut, cutting off her shrieks in a sudden, merciful silence.
The hallway grew quiet once more. The storm outside had finally cleared completely, leaving the night sky a vast, clear expanse of brilliant stars visible through the penthouse windows.
Ronan exhaled slowly, his shoulders relaxing as he turned back toward Ivy. He walked down the corridor, closing the distance between them until he stood right in front of her. The tension of the confrontation evaporated, leaving behind an intense, undeniable heat.
"Well," Ronan murmured, a faint, dark smile touching his lips as he reached out, his warm fingers gently brushing against her cheek. "That concludes our housekeeping for the evening."

Ivy leaned into his touch just slightly, her dark eyes flashing with a brilliant, triumphant spark. "Good. Because I believe we have much more important matters to audit."
Ronan pulled her close, his lips descending toward hers as the city lights flickered endlessly beneath them, sealing an alliance written in iron, blood, and obsidian.
