Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Circle

The morning sun finally broke through the heavy gray clouds three days later, casting a warm, golden light across the newly cleared lawns of the Caldwell estate.

The burned ruins of the main mansion had been safely cordoned off, but the south wing and the guest villas remained untouched, standing sturdy and bright against the autumn breeze.

I sat on a wooden bench near the garden fountain, watching a sight I had prayed for every single day since I arrived at this terrifying estate.

Noah was standing upright, his small legs planted firmly on the stone path, holding onto his father's large, calloused hand. With a determined, joyful grin, he took one step. Then a second. Then a third, laughing out loud as he walked all the way across the courtyard into my open arms.

I caught him easily, spinning him around in a tight, joyful hug as he squealed with laughter.

"You did it, buddy!" I cheered, burying my face in his soft hair. "Look at you running!"

Ethan walked up behind us, his rugged face split by a rare, genuine smile that softened the hard lines of his dangerous world. He reached out, resting his hand gently on my shoulder while Noah clung tightly to my neck.

"The Johns Hopkins specialists called this morning," Ethan said softly, his eyes warm as he looked down at his son. "They said his recovery is a medical miracle. But you and I both know it wasn't a miracle."

I looked up at Ethan, the morning sun reflecting in his dark eyes. "It was just patience, truth, and a little bit of stubbornness."

"More than that," Ethan murmured, leaning down to press a tender kiss to Noah's forehead before shifting his gaze to meet mine. "You brought life back into this house when everything else was turning to ash."

Noah looked between the two of us, his bright eyes twinkling with innocent mischief. "Does this mean Elena is staying forever?"

Ethan and I exchanged a long, meaningful look—a silent conversation that bridged the terrifying chasm between his world of shadows and my world of healing.

Ethan smiled, wrapping his strong arm securely around my waist and pulling us both close.

"Yeah, buddy," Ethan answered softly, his voice a promise that echoed across the quiet garden. "She's staying forever."
