Chapter 6 - The Ghost of Milan

The private jet touched down at Malpensa Airport in Milan just as a cold, biting drizzle began to smear the grey tarmac. Lorenzo Rossi sat handcuffed to a bolted metal bench inside a nondescript hangar owned by a freight logistics firm that didn't officially exist. Two of Rocco’s top enforcers stood silently by the sliding door, their dark coats wet with rain, their expressions as flat and unyielding as the concrete floor beneath them.
Lorenzo’s expensive bespoke suit was rumpled, his silk tie wrenched loose, and his hair plastered to his forehead. He had been pulled out of a private poker game in the Brera district less than six hours ago without a single word of explanation, dragged into the back of an armored van, and flown across Europe before the sun had even fully cleared the Italian Alps.
The heavy steel doors rolled open with a harsh groan, and the sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the hangar. Rocco Moretti stepped out of the mist, adjusting the collar of his black wool overcoat. He didn't look like a man traveling light; he looked like an executioner stepping onto a battlefield.
"Rocco," Lorenzo spat out, struggling to stand against the chain binding his wrist to the bench, his voice a mix of bravado and raw terror. "Have you lost your absolute mind? You think you can snatch me off European soil just because—"
Rocco stopped three feet away. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't need to. "Your sister tried to throw my son into a trash bin behind my kitchen."
The words dropped into the cold air like lead weights. Lorenzo’s bravado fractured instantly, his eyes darting frantically toward the two enforcers and back to Rocco’s chillingly calm face. "Valentina... she... she panicked. Rocco, listen to me, whatever she told you, she was manipulated by the syndicate board in Zurich—"
"She didn't tell me anything," Rocco interrupted softly, pulling a thin leather folder from his inner coat pocket. He flipped it open with one finger, revealing a series of printed bank transfers, offshore account routing sheets, and encrypted chat logs. "My tech team pulled the financial pipeline from the Swiss shell corporations you set up under your mother's maiden name. Every euro used to pay off Clara, every encrypted relay server routed through Milan, every contingency plan to claim the infant as an accidental street orphan... it leads straight to your ledger, Lorenzo."
Lorenzo swallowed hard, his throat dry as sandpaper. "We just wanted leverage, Rocco! The Moretti family council has been squeezing our shipping lanes out of the Mediterranean for two years! We needed a guarantee that you would renegotiate the distribution terms—we never intended to harm the child, I swear to God!"
Rocco closed the folder. The sharp snap echoed in the hollow hangar. He looked down at his brother-in-law with a gaze so entirely devoid of mercy that Lorenzo stopped breathing altogether.
"You don't negotiate for a child's life, Lorenzo," Rocco said, his voice dropping to a low, lethal hum. "And you certainly don't leave my flesh in the garbage to rot for the sake of a shipping lane."
Rocco turned his back on the handcuffed man, raising two fingers toward Marcus, who waited by the edge of the tarmac. "Freeze every asset, dissolve every corporate entity tied to his name, and leave him with the clothes on his back on the steps of the Milan Cathedral by nightfall. If he tries to cross into Switzerland or contact my family ever again, bury him where the snow never melts."

Lorenzo began to scream, thrashing against the metal bench as the enforcers stepped forward, but Rocco was already walking back toward the idling jet, his mind focused entirely on the empire waiting for him across the sea—and the little girl who had kept it from crumbling.
