Chapter 9 - Blood and Fire

"Dominic!" Isabella cried out, the name tearing from her throat as she rushed forward, throwing her arms around his neck without a second thought.
Dominic caught her, pulling her tightly against his chest, burying his face in her hair for a brief, desperate second. His breathing was ragged, adrenaline pumping through his veins like liquid fire.
"Are you hurt?" Dominic demanded, pulling back just enough to inspect her face with frantic, burning eyes. "Did he touch you?"
"I'm fine! I'm fine, but Lily and Leo are right down—"
Before she could finish, Leo poked his head up through the hatch, his eyes wide. "Father!"
Dominic dropped to his knees, scooping his son into a fierce, suffocating embrace, holding him as if he were trying to weld them back together. "I've got you. You're safe. I'm here."
Isabella stood over them, her chest heaving as she looked down at the unconscious assassin on the floor, then back at Dominic. "The man... he said your car was ambushed on the expressway. He said you were finished."
Dominic slowly stood up, keeping Leo close by his side. A dark, lethal smile touched his lips—a terrifying expression that belonged to the feared mafia boss of Boston, stripped of all mercy.
"They set a trap on the expressway," Dominic said, his voice dropping into a deadly, gravelly whisper. "They blew up my decoy vehicle with three of my decoy men inside, thinking I was in the back seat. While they were celebrating their victory, my security team flanked their position from the rear." He looked down at the unconscious assassin with utter contempt. "Amateurs."
The distant sound of police sirens and private security choppers began to echo across the lake, signaling that the Moretti reinforcement unit had finally secured the main estate and neutralized the remaining syndicate members.
"The house..." Leo whispered, looking back toward the billowing plumes of black smoke rising from the main residential wing. "Is it gone?"
"The house can be rebuilt," Dominic said firmly, placing a reassuring hand on his son’s shoulder. "What matters is that you're safe. Both of you."
Dominic then turned his attention to Isabella, stepping closer until the space between them vanished. His storm-gray eyes swept over her face, drinking in every detail as if verifying that she was truly real and unharmed. Without a single word of warning, he reached out, cupped her face in his bloodied, calloused hand, and pulled her into a kiss that was so fierce, so raw, and so deeply passionate that it completely ignored the chaos burning around them.
It was a kiss of absolute survival—a declaration that against all odds, against betrayal, war, and fire, they had won.
Isabella kissed him back with equal fervor, her hands gripping his shoulders, letting go of every fear, every hesitation, and every rule she had ever set for herself.
When they finally broke apart for air, resting their foreheads together, Leo cleared his throat awkwardly, looking away with a tiny, embarrassed smile.
Dominic chuckled softly—a genuine, deep sound that Isabella had never heard from him before. He looked down at his son, then back at Isabella, his expression shifting into something steady, permanent, and unyielding.
"It's over," Dominic said quietly. "The Silver Viper syndicate is finished. Marcus is gone. There's no one left to hide from."
Isabella searched his eyes, finding no shadows left behind the storm—only a profound, unshakeable peace.
"What happens now?" she whispered.
Dominic took her hand, intertwining his fingers with hers, before reaching down to take Leo’s other hand.

"Now," Dominic said, turning toward the sunlight shining across the lake, "we finally start living."
