Chapter 9 - The Final Ledger

Lucas took a panicked step backward, his back hitting the cold glass of the penthouse window as the federal marshals advanced, closing off every exit.

“You can’t arrest me!” Lucas shouted, his polished executive facade completely shattering, revealing the desperate, cornered coward underneath. “I hold controlling interest in three of Dad’s largest industrial parks! If you take me down, the entire Lindqvist holding corporation collapses into bankruptcy within forty-eight hours! The banks will freeze everything!”

“Let them collapse,” Christopher said, his voice dropping into a cold, lethal register. “I built those parks from the dirt up with my bare hands, Lucas. I can turn them back into dirt if it means burying the parasite that tried to eat my family from the inside out.”

Evelyn stepped forward, opening her legal binder and holding out a formal document toward my brother.

“Lucas Lindqvist,” Evelyn said crisply. “You are formally served with an emergency federal injunction revoking all proxy voting rights, freezing your personal accounts under the RICO Act, and initiating criminal charges for securities fraud, identity theft, and corporate espionage.”

Lucas stared at the paper as if it were a death warrant. His hands shook violently as he reached out, not to take the paper, but to grab a sleek silver laptop sitting on the bar behind him.

“If I’m going down,” Lucas snarled, his eyes wild with sudden, manic fury, “I’m wiping the primary database! Nobody gets the portfolio!”

Before his finger could slam down on the enterprise execute key, I didn't hesitate.

Years of corporate survival, watching my family betray me, and enduring the psychological warfare of a marriage built on fraud had taught me one fundamental truth: never let a cornered animal reach the trigger.

I lunged forward across the bar, grabbed the laptop by its aluminum hinge, and slammed it shut with a resounding thud just an inch shy of his hand, pinning his fingers against the counter.

Lucas shrieked in pain, pulling his hand back as the federal marshals swarmed him, slamming him face-first against the marble bar and clicking the steel cuffs securely around his wrists.
