Chapter 7 - The Unravelling in Room 412

"You ruined everything!"

Jessica’s voice pierced the quiet corridors of the hospital like a shattered glass bottle as she lunged down the hall, bypassing the marshals and storming straight toward Daniel’s open door.

Daniel stumbled backward into his room, his IV pole clattering loudly against the metal doorframe. "Jessica, wait, let me explain—it's just a temporary injunction, my lawyers can—"

"Your lawyers?" Jessica shrieked, her mask of cool sophistication entirely gone, replaced by feral, desperate rage. "Your lawyers just emailed me to say my personal accounts have been frozen too because my LLC was listed as the secondary beneficiary on your fraudulent corporate shell! I'm ruined! You used me as a tax shield, and now the feds are seizing my apartment!"

The nurses and orderlies watched in stunned silence as the glamorous mistress turned on my husband with open claws, shoving him hard against his hospital bed until he tripped over the sheets and collapsed backward onto the mattress.

"Get away from me!" Daniel gasped, trying to push her off while clutching his freshly operated side. "You knew what we were doing! You helped me set up the Vanguard shell accounts!"

"I thought you were rich!" Jessica screamed, tears of fury streaming down her face as she ripped a vase of decorative flowers off the bedside table and smashed it against the tile floor. "You told me your wife was a penniless nobody who would sign away the house without a fight! You said she was weak!"

I stood slowly in my doorway, leaning against the frame with my arms crossed over my chest, watching the grand finale of their meticulously planned betrayal implode under the harsh weight of reality.

Detective Miller stepped into Daniel's room, casually resting a hand on his holster. "Alright, folks, show's over. Visiting hours for federal co-conspirators are officially canceled. Step away from the patient before I have you both escorted off the property in handcuffs."

Jessica froze, breathing heavily, her chest heaving as she realized the depth of the trap she had walked into. She shot one last venomous glance at me, her eyes burning with pure hatred, before turning on her heel and storming down the corridor toward the elevators, her expensive heels clicking a furious rhythm against the floor.

Daniel sat alone on the edge of his hospital bed, staring blankly at the shattered ceramic and spilled water pooling around his bare feet.
