Chapter 6 - Whispers in the Vault

The burner phone clattered against the oak coffee table, its screen dark and silent, matching the hollow ruin of Isaac’s voice.
I didn't give it another thought. My focus shifted instantly when Marcus strode into the sunlit living room, holding an encrypted flash drive between his index and middle finger, his face etched with a look of fierce, tactical triumph.
"If you thought Isaac's panic was satisfying," Marcus announced, tossing the drive onto the table near my discarded phone, "wait until you see what Caleb and I dug out of Vance Construction's off-site server backups an hour ago."
Noah crossed his arms, stepping closer to the table. "What did you find?"
"Not just tax evasion or fake safety logs," Marcus replied, pulling a laptop toward him and jiggling the drive into port. "Vance Construction was acting as a primary front for an international money-laundering syndicate operating out of the Caymans. Arthur Vance didn't just build a billion-dollar empire on bribes; he built it on drug cartel financing and illicit weapon trafficking channels."
Julian adjusted his glasses, a slow, predatory smile spreading across his face. "A money-laundering ring connected to international cartels? Well, that changes things from a white-collar federal prosecution to an airtight, unbailable federal conspiracy charge. Arthur and Wendy aren't just losing their mansion; they're looking at spending the rest of their natural lives in a maximum-security federal penitentiary."
"And Clover?" I asked quietly, taking a sip of my cooling tea. "What happens to her?"
Caleb looked up from his corner screen, typing a final command. "Clover tried to board a private flight to London out of O'Hare forty minutes ago using a secondary passport. Leo’s port and aviation logistics contacts flagged her ticket before she cleared customs. Federal marshals picked her up at the boarding gate with fifty thousand dollars in cash stuffed into her designer handbag."
A cold, bitter satisfaction curled in my chest. They had all thought they were untouchable—living in a gilded bubble of arrogance, cruelty, and deceit, looking down on everyone else. Now, the walls they had built to keep the world out were crashing down on top of them.
"Good," I said, my voice steady and resolute. "They deserve every single consequence coming their way."
"They do," Noah agreed, stepping over to me and giving my good shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "But there’s one more thing, Flora. Something that involves you directly."

I looked up, my brow furrowing slightly. "What do you mean?"
Noah exchanged a quick, guarded look with Julian before handing me a crisp, legal document printed on heavy parchment. My eyes scanned the text, and the breath caught sharply in my throat as I read the bold headings and asset-transfer clauses.
