Chapter 10 - The Syndicate’s Ultimatum

The penthouse boardroom of Sterling Global was an architectural masterpiece of glass, dark steel, and minimalist design, overlooking the sprawling skyline of Manhattan as twilight began to bleed across the horizon.

Seated around the massive quartz conference table were the twelve managing partners of the global syndicate—powerful individuals whose names and financial decisions influenced governments and multinational corporations across three continents.

As Arthur and I entered the room, every conversation ceased instantly. All eyes turned toward me, not with the condescending skepticism I had endured for years from my family, but with absolute, unflinching respect.

"Staff Sergeant Parker," the lead managing director, a formidable woman named Madame Laurent, greeted me with a respectful nod. "We have just received confirmation regarding the asset seizure of Apex Logistics. You have effectively dismantled a multi-billion-dollar corruption ring in less than twenty-four hours."

"It wasn't just about dismantling a ring, Madame Laurent," I said, walking toward my designated seat at the head of the table. "It was about proving that accountability applies to everyone—from corrupt corporate executives to domestic bullies who think they can exploit people who can't fight back."

Arthur sat beside me, sliding the master dossier across the table. "The European logistics acquisition is fully cleared. But Julian Vance is not going to go down quietly. He still has sleeper assets embedded within the federal contracting grid."

"Let him try," I said firmly, resting my hands on the edge of the quartz table. "We have the data, we have the forensic proof, and we have the legal authority."

Before Madame Laurent could reply, the secure communication console built into the center of the conference table suddenly flashed a piercing, amber warning light.

An incoming emergency override signal.

Arthur frowned, tapping the master console button to route the transmission to the main display screen.

The screen flickered, replacing the global financial charts with a live, high-definition satellite feed of the secure underground garage downstairs.

My breath caught in my throat.

The private motorcade we had arrived in was surrounded. Not by police, and not by ordinary security guards.

Dozens of armed men in heavy tactical gear bearing unmarked insignia were swarming the lower level, systematically breaching the secure elevator shafts and disabling the perimeter cameras one by one.

At the center of the monitor stood Julian Vance, holding a secure detonator console while staring directly up at the ceiling camera with a chilling, psychotic smile.
