Chapter 9 - The Boardroom Counter-Strike

Before Julian could finish his thinly veiled threat, a sharp, heavy click echoed behind him as two of Arthur’s senior security operatives stepped out from behind a concrete pillar, raising tactical suppressive weapons directly toward Julian’s chest.
"I wouldn't finish that sentence, Mr. Vance," Arthur said, his voice dropping into a cold, dangerous register. "You're standing on private property belonging to a global syndicate that has survived world wars and corporate depressions long before your little security firm ever laundered its first illegal kickback."
Julian didn't flinch. He slowly pulled his hands out of his pockets, offering a mocking, slow clap. "Oh, bravo, Colonel Sterling. You brought your little guard dogs. But do you honestly think a few mercenaries in suits can protect her from what's coming?"
"Try me," I said, taking a step forward until I was standing face-to-face with him. The height difference didn't intimidate me; I had faced worse in active combat zones and high-stakes corporate takeover battles. "You think you can intimidate me with threats of violence because your corporate slush fund got exposed? Let me educate you on something, Julian. Your brother Richard was a pathetic pawn, and you're just a glorified thug operating behind shell corporations."
Julian’s smile vanished, replaced by a sudden, venomous rage. "You arrogant little bitch. You think freezing our accounts stops us? We have operatives inside every regulatory agency in Washington. Within twenty-four hours, your assets will be seized under federal national security injunctions, and you'll be begging on the streets."
"Then I suggest you check your terminal before you make any more empty promises," I countered smoothly, pulling my encrypted smartphone from my pocket and tapping the screen.
At that exact second, Julian’s secure satellite phone buzzed violently in his breast pocket.
He frowned, pulling the device out and glancing at the screen. As his eyes scanned the blinking red notification light, all the color instantly drained from his face.
"What... what is this?" Julian whispered, his hands beginning to tremble slightly.
"That," I said, smiling coldly, "is an automated federal compliance freeze initiated by the Department of Defense cyber-division three minutes ago. Every single offshore account, shell corporation, and illegal asset tied to Apex Logistics & Security has just been transferred into a government-held escrow account pending criminal indictment."
Julian stared at the phone as if it were a venomous snake, then looked up at me with sheer, unadulterated horror. "You... you didn't just freeze my brother's department. You went after the entire syndicate mainframe."
"I told you," I said, turning my back on him as the boardroom elevator doors chimed and slid open. "I don't play corporate games. I end them."
May you like
"Arthur, let's go," I added, walking toward the elevator without looking back. "The board is waiting."
