Julian’s hand moved instinctively toward his right jacket pocket, but before his fingers could clear the fabric, the high-intensity floodlights of two federal tactical vehicles erupted from behind the shipping containers, blinding him instantly.
"Federal agents! Do not move! Hands where we can see them!"
The bullhorn voice shattered the night. Four armed tactical officers moved in with practiced speed, pinning Julian against the muddy gravel before he could take a single step backward.
"David!" Julian shouted, his face pressed into the wet asphalt, spitting grit and rain. "You think this saves your family? Your wife let me in! She begged me to stay! You think you’re a hero? You’re just a soldier who wasn't there!"

Agent Harris pulled a black ledger and an encrypted flash drive from Julian’s inner coat pocket, sealing them into an evidence bag. "We’ve got the full manifest, David. Tyler’s identity was flagged as an unverified proxy. Every debt, every charge Julian generated under that name is legally void as of tonight. Your boy is clean."
Julian struggled against the cuffs, laughing bitterly into the dirt. "You think I was the one pulling the strings, David? You think I picked your house out of a hat?"

I frowned, looking down at him. "What are you talking about?"
"Ask your wife," Julian hissed, a malicious grin stretching across his wet face. "Ask Lauren who gave me the key to your basement before you even set foot on that transport plane to Germany."
