Chapter 30 - The Final Gambit

I looked down at the flashing screen of my phone, then back up at Elena, whose face was illuminated by the harsh, flickering glare of the archive lights. The trap hadn't been sprung in a Queens warehouse. It was closing right above our heads.

"They know you're down here," I said, my voice dropping into an ice-cold register of absolute resolve.

"They know someone breached the secure archive network," Elena corrected, pulling her coat tighter around her shoulders. "They don't know I'm with you. Not yet."

I pulled the flash drive off the table and slid it securely into my inner breast pocket, right next to the Browning Hi-Power.

"If we take the private elevator, it’ll lock automatically the moment we hit floor thirty," I said, calculating our escape routes with lightning speed. "We take the service stairs to the sub-basement freight tunnel, loop around to the loading dock, and meet Miller’s tactical team outside the perimeter."

"And if they’ve already locked the service doors?" Elena asked, her eyes sharp.

"Then we walk right through the front doors of the boardroom and remind them who owns this company," I replied, a cold, predatory smile cutting across my lips.

The game of corporate hide-and-seek was over. They wanted a war inside the boardroom? I was going to give them a massacre.

"Come on, Elena," I said, turning sharply toward the concrete stairwell. "Let's go meet our board of directors."
