Chapter 10 - The Dawn of a New Empire

Two weeks later, the morning sun poured over the manicured lawns and stone terraces of the Mercer estate in New York, warming the crisp autumn air into something resembling a gentle spring morning.

The front gates swung open smoothly as a black town car rolled up the gravel driveway, coming to a gentle halt near the grand stone steps.

Grant stepped out into the crisp air. He didn't wear dark glasses. He didn't hesitate. He took a deep, full breath, filling his lungs with the scent of the nearby salt air and falling leaves.

Meridian Global had been completely dismantled, its European assets seized and redistributed under federal restitution orders. Mark Sterling was facing three consecutive life sentences without parole, and Viktor Vance was currently sitting in a Zurich maximum-security remand prison awaiting trial for international corporate terrorism.

The nightmare was officially, finally over.

Grant walked up the stone steps, pushing open the heavy oak front door.

“Mr. Grant!”

A tiny voice echoed from the hallway, followed by the rapid, pattering sound of small feet flying across the hardwood floor.

Before Grant could even close the door, a yellow blur slammed directly into his knees. He laughed, dropping to one knee and scooping Lucy up into his arms as she giggled uncontrollably, holding her favorite yellow drugstore flashlight aloft like a trophy.

“You’re back!” Lucy squealed, throwing her arms around his neck. “Did you catch the bad guys in Zurich?”

“Every single one of them,” Grant smiled, setting her gently back down on her feet.

Hannah walked out from the west wing, wiping her hands on a cloth, a cautious, beautiful smile breaking across her face as she looked at him standing tall, strong, and completely free in the foyer.

“Welcome home, Grant,” she said softly.

Grant walked across the floor toward her, stopping just inches away. The distance between them, once measured in cold paces and silent rules, had vanished entirely.

“It’s good to be home, Hannah,” Grant said, his eyes locking onto hers with a profound, unshakable warmth. “And this time... I’m not going anywhere.”

He reached out, gently taking her hand in his.

Outside, the sun climbed high above the Long Island Sound, flooding the grand estate with golden, unending light. The dark days were nothing more than a ghost of the past. Grant Mercer had survived the fire, the betrayal, and the long, freezing night—and as he looked down at the little girl with the flashlight and the woman who had helped him find his way back, he knew his real life was only just beginning.
