Chapter 2 - The Digital Ledger

The courtroom hummed with electric tension as the court technician inserted the black USB drive into the console. For three agonizing seconds, the massive overhead flat-screen display above the judge’s head remained stubbornly black.

Jonathan lunged forward in his chair, his hands gripping the edge of the defense table so tightly his knuckles turned chalk-white. “Your Honor, I object! This is a gross violation of privacy, obtained through illegal trespassing and theft by a minor! Any files on that drive are inadmissible!”

“Mr. Reed, you can argue the legality of the acquisition during the motions to follow,” Judge Thomas replied coldly, staring at the screen. “Right now, let’s find out what kind of privacy is worth a child stealing it to protect his mother.”

A folder titled PROJECT_OMEGA_REVISED popped up on the monitor, containing hundreds of subfolders, audio recordings, scanned legal documents, and digital ledgers.

The technician double-clicked the topmost audio file.

Instantly, the crystal-clear voice of Jonathan Reed filled the courtroom speakers, broadcasted across the microphones for everyone to hear.

“If she contests the prenup, drag it out for eighteen months,” the recorded voice of Jonathan said, cold and calculating. “Freeze her accounts, cut off the utility payments on the temporary apartment if you have to, make her look erratic in front of the psychological evaluators. Once she cracks under financial pressure, custody falls to me by default. Victoria agrees—we cannot let her walk away with a single cent of the Westchester properties.”

A collective gasp rippled through the gallery.

Olivia sat frozen, staring at the back of her husband’s head. The voice was unmistakable. It was Jonathan—arrogant, scheming, and utterly ruthless—speaking to someone whose voice hadn't yet played.

The audio file paused, then a second voice answered. It belonged to Julian Vance, Jonathan’s chief corporate attorney, advising him on how to manufacture false neglect claims using hired informants.

Victoria Reed buried her face in her hands, her aristocratic posture instantly collapsing under the weight of public exposure. Savannah Blake, the influencer girlfriend, shrank back into her seat, frantically typing on her phone, desperate to disconnect herself from the unfolding disaster.

“Turn it off! Turn it off!” Jonathan shouted, losing his composure entirely as he leaped to his feet, pointing a shaking finger at the screen. “It’s out of context! Those are private business strategy sessions—!”

“Sit down, Mr. Reed!” Judge Thomas commanded, his face dark with fury. He looked down at Jonathan with utter contempt. “Business strategy? You were scheming to fabricate child neglect against your own wife to rig a custody battle and steal her parental rights. And that’s just the audio.”

The judge turned his piercing gaze back to the technician. “Open the financial ledgers. Let’s see what else Mr. Reed has hidden in there.”
