Chapter 7 - The Bloodline Ledger

The air in the forest above the gorge was dead silent, save for the heavy, ragged breathing of the men and the quiet, traumatized sobs of the little girl.

Victor laid the unconscious woman down carefully on a bed of dry pine needles. Her chest rose and fell in shallow, erratic rhythms, the rope burns around her neck standing out in bruised, purple contrast against her pale skin. Lily crawled over to her side instantly, pressing her small, dirty cheek against her mother’s arm.

"She's burning up, Boss," Diego reported, pressing a hand against the woman's forehead. "The shock, the exposure, and whatever they did to her before hanging her... she’s slipping into septic shock."

Ramon knelt beside them. His dark eyes flicked down to the woman's hand, which was still clenched into a rigid fist around the silver Calderon medallion. Without a word, he pried her stiff fingers open, sliding the heavy metal crest free from her grip. He turned it over in his palm. The coiled viper and shattered dagger gleamed dully in the filtered gray light.

"It's not just a sigil," Ramon muttered softly, running his thumb over the hidden seam along the edge of the medallion. With a sharp click, the heavy silver casing popped open like a locket, revealing a micro-SD card and a tiny, folded slip of paper no larger than a postage stamp.

Matteo leaned in close, his brow furrowed. "What is it?"

Ramon unfolded the paper with extreme care. Written on it in faded, block-lettered ink were a series of alphanumeric coordinates and a single name: Elena Vance.

"Elena," Ramon repeated, his voice dropping an octave as a cold realization settled into his chest. He looked down at the unconscious woman, then back at Lily. "Viktor Vance didn't just abandon a random target. This woman... she’s Viktor’s estranged daughter. And Elena is the sole legal heir to the entire Calderon offshore trust."

Diego whistled softly under his breath. "If Viktor is hunting his own flesh and blood to secure the syndicate's capital... that means the war coming isn't just about territory. It’s a coup from the inside."

"And we just walked right into the middle of their family execution," Matteo added, glancing nervously back toward the tree line. "If Viktor knows we have her, he won't stop until every one of us is at the bottom of that river."
