Chapter 4 - The Bank Heist

Dante stared at the silver serpent coin, his mind calculating odds with ruthless precision. If the ghost of the Vane family had returned to reclaim their stolen empire, they wouldn't stop at destroying his office. Their ultimate prize wasn't the ruined vault upstairs—it was the safety deposit box currently sitting inside the vault of First Mercantile Union Bank.
The very box that Harper’s brass key unlocked.
“Leo,” Dante said softly, not taking his eyes off the coin.
“Boss?”
“Cancel all perimeter patrols. Pull every available man off the docks and stage them three blocks away from First Mercantile Union Bank.”
Leo’s eyes widened in alarm. “Boss, that’s a federal financial district. If we move a crew in there tonight, the SEC and the feds will be crawling all over us by morning.”
“Let them,” Dante snapped, turning around with a look so lethal Leo physically stepped back. “Someone inside our inner circle gave the Vane remnants Harper’s route tonight. That means whoever broke into this office had access to our internal communications. If we don't beat them to that safety deposit box, our entire syndicate will be executed from the inside out.”
Leo swallowed hard and pulled his radio from his tactical vest. “Consider it done. What about the girl?”
“Harper stays under armed guard at West End General,” Dante said, sliding the silver serpent coin into his pocket. “And I’m going to pay a visit to a bank.”
Ten minutes later, Dante’s armored SUV slipped silently through the deserted financial district. The towering skyscrapers of glass and steel rose into the stormy night like monolithic tombstones.
When they reached First Mercantile Union Bank, the heavy stone building sat dark and silent against the rain. But as Dante cut his headlights half a block away, he spotted something that made his blood run cold.
A black, unmarked utility van was parked illegally across the alleyway beside the bank’s side service entrance. Two figures in tactical gear were casually stepping out of the rear doors, carrying heavy duffel bags and thermal cutting equipment.
