Chapter 8 - The Override Code

The glass of the cabin door shattered inward with a sharp, explosive crack as a heavy-duty tactical pry bar forced the internal deadbolt out of its frame.
A tall man in a dark, unmarked tactical vest stepped through the ruined doorway, his face obscured by a black balaclava, holding a suppressed carbine leveled directly at the center of the room. Behind him, two other operatives pushed into the cramped lounge space, their eyes scanning the interior with cold, predatory efficiency.
“Hands where we can see them! Step away from the table!” the lead operative barked, taking a sharp step forward.
I instinctively raised my hands, my breath catching in my throat, paralyzed by the barrel of the gun.
My mother didn't raise her hands. She remained seated, her fingers resting lightly on the enter key of the military-grade satellite terminal, her eyes locked onto the operative with an expression of freezing, absolute contempt.
“You’re about ten seconds too late, son,” Mom said, her voice remarkably steady.
“Ma’am, do not touch that console—” the operative warned, rushing forward to grab her wrist.
Click.
Mom pressed the enter key with her index finger.
Instantly, the small red LED light on the satellite terminal shifted from a blinking warning to a solid, emerald green. A low, rhythmic chirp echoed from the terminal’s internal speaker, followed by a high-pitched digital confirmation tone.
Across the tarmac outside, the three unmarked black SUVs suddenly went pitch black. Their headlights flickered and died, their emergency ignition systems automatically cutting out as a remote kill-switch protocol locked down their engine control modules. At the same time, the encrypted satellite uplink flashed a bold, glowing message across the screen: OVERRIDE SUCCESSFUL. ALL SECURE ASSETS FROZEN.

The lead operative froze in his tracks, his tactical radio instantly crackling to life with a chorus of panicked voices from the team outside on the tarmac.
“Command, what just happened?! All vehicle electronics have completely shut down! We’ve lost steering and ignition!”
