Chapter 27 - THE AFTERMATH IN THE DARKNESSWe stood in the absolute silence of the decommissioned bunker core, our breathing echoing heavily off the cold concrete walls.

My father slumped slowly against the obsidian terminal console, letting out a long, shuddering breath that seemed to shed twenty years of hunted survival from his shoulders. He reached out, pulling the titanium drive from the port, and held it out toward me.
"It's over," my father murmured softly. "The Janus network is dead. The syndicate's financial assets have been frozen and distributed to international humanitarian accounts. They’re entirely blind."
Miller stepped out from behind the server rack, clutching her bleeding shoulder with a grimace, though a triumphant smirk played across her lips. "Well," she panted, checking her dead tactical comms unit. "I guess that means we won't be needing the extraction chopper anymore."
I took the titanium drive from my father's hand, feeling the cool metal surface. The heavy knot that had weighed on my chest since childhood was finally gone, replaced by an unfamiliar, profound sense of peace.
"What do we do now, Dad?" I asked, looking up to meet his pale blue eyes.
May you like
My father smiled, a warm, genuine expression that I hadn't seen since I was a little boy standing in the driveway of our Virginia home.
"Now, son? Now we finally go home."
