Chapter 25 - Monday Morning Light

Monday morning arrived with the fierce, brilliant heat typical of a late spring in Scottsdale.
I woke up just before dawn, walking quietly down the hardwood hallway to the nursery. The sage-green walls were bathed in the pale, golden glow of the rising sun filtering through the sheer curtains. I lowered myself into the rocking chair, resting both hands gently over my swollen belly.
My phone, resting on the side table, vibrated softly at exactly 8:30 AM.
I picked it up and tapped the screen. A new email from Rebecca Sterling flashed in bold letters across the display:
SUBJECT: EMERGENCY INJUNCTION GRANTED – PROPERTY TITLE CLEARED.
Megan,
The federal magistrate reviewed our emergency severance petition and Arthur's sworn affidavit early this morning. The court has officially severed Parcel 4B and the residential deed from the Apex bankruptcy receivership pool. The title is fully cleared, unencumbered, and legally secured under your independent trust.
Congratulations. You officially own your home, free and clear of every ghost in the Vance family ledger.
— Rebecca.
I stared at the screen, and for the first time in months, the tightness in my chest completely vanished, replaced by an overwhelming, weightless sense of absolute peace.
Downstairs, the front door chime rang out with a clear, cheerful tone.
I stood up slowly, walking out of the nursery and descending the stairs. When I pulled open the front door, no federal marshals were standing on the porch, no legal notices were taped to the glass, and no corporate shadows lingered in the driveway.

Instead, a gentle desert breeze swept across the porch, carrying the sweet scent of blooming sage and the quiet promise of a brand-new day. I took a deep, steady breath, placed one hand gently against the doorframe, and smiled into the morning sun.
We were finally home.
