Chapter 53 - The Geneva Connection

The digital breadcrumbs Erica had pulled from the Geneva account didn't stop at financial telemetry; they included a localized IP routing log that pointed directly to a quiet, residential sector outside Geneva, Switzerland.

Within twenty-four hours, Erica had established a secure, encrypted video uplink to a private terminal in Europe. The screen on the kitchen island flickered to life, resolving into the crisp, high-definition image of a wood-paneled study overlooking a gray, misty Swiss lake.

Sitting behind a heavy mahogany desk was Eleanor Vance.

She looked older, her silver hair pulled back into a tight bun, wearing a simple woolen sweater that contrasted sharply with the tailored designer suits she had worn in the boardrooms of Boston. A small, ceramic mug of tea sat untouched beside her hand.

"I told the executors to throw away the keys to the Cliff House, Megan," Eleanor’s voice came through the speakers, steady and devoid of its usual aristocratic warmth, though touched with a surprising fatigue. "I did not expect my grandniece to track me down across an encrypted satellite channel just to ask about dead men's ghosts."

Megan sat directly in front of the camera, her expression unyielding. "Viktor isn't a ghost, Eleanor. He just liquidated eighty-four million dollars from a dormant Geneva holding account tied to Arthur’s western expansion trust. And he's using the sub-surface easements beneath our properties in Scottsdale to rebuild his network."

Eleanor closed her eyes for a long moment, taking a slow, measured breath. When she opened them, a shadow of deep regret crossed her features. "Viktor was always the most disciplined of the brothers. While Arthur built empires out of paper and ambition, Viktor built cages out of patience. He knew the DOJ couldn't touch the western expansion trust because your father deliberately structured it as a blind family survivorship clause."

"Which means Viktor can't touch it either—unless he has a cooperating lineal heir to sign off on the asset consolidation," Megan pointed out sharply. "Or unless he forces me into a probate contest."

"He isn't trying to force you into a contest, Megan," Eleanor corrected softly. "He's offering you an inheritance."

Marcus, standing just behind Megan, leaned into the camera frame. "An inheritance of criminal debt and covert infrastructure? That's not an inheritance, Eleanor. That's a trap."

"To you, yes," Eleanor replied, her gaze fixing on Megan with piercing clarity. "To Viktor, it is the only way to preserve the family name from total extinction. He believes that if the bloodline takes ownership of the remaining foundations, the legal shield remains intact. He didn't liquidate those funds to run away, Megan. He liquidated them to buy a ticket to Arizona."

Megan felt the air leave the room. "He's coming here?"

"He left Zurich twelve hours ago on a private charter," Eleanor said quietly. "He doesn't want a legal battle in the courts, and he doesn't want a war of proxies. He wants to sit across from you at your kitchen table and settle the Vance legacy once and for all."
