Chapter 4 - The Judge’s Mandate

Judge Holloway stood up from the bench, her black robes rustling in the absolute silence that followed Clara’s outburst. She looked down at the divorce petition resting on her desk—the very document Clara had signed ten minutes earlier, ready to surrender everything just to escape the toxic nightmare of her marriage.

"Mrs. Linwood," the judge said softly, her tone entirely changed—no longer just official, but profoundly protective.

"Yes, Your Honor?" Clara answered, turning her gaze upward.

"When you entered my courtroom this morning, you stated that you wished to waive your claims to the marital estate, the home, the vehicles, and the business shares," Judge Holloway said, picking up the blue-backed folder and letting it slide back open. "Under normal circumstances, a court respects a petitioner's desire for a clean break. However, fraud vitiates everything it touches."

The judge looked across the room at Gabriel, who sat frozen in terror.

"This court will not accept Mrs. Linwood’s waiver," Judge Holloway declared, her voice ringing with absolute authority. "Furthermore, pursuant to Rule 60 of the civil code regarding fraudulent concealment of marital assets, this entire settlement is hereby set aside."

Gabriel gasped, clutching the edge of the table. "Your Honor, please—!"

"Silence, Mr. Linwood," the judge snapped. "Effective immediately, Linwood Enterprises is placed under court-appointed forensic receivership. Every bank account, corporate ledger, and personal asset held by you, Ms. Drake, or any affiliated shell company is frozen pending a full federal and state audit."

Judge Holloway turned her attention to the bailiff. "Escort Ms. Drake out of my courtroom immediately. If she attempts to contact any witnesses, minor children, or parties involved in this proceeding, she will be held in contempt and remanded into custody."

Before Samantha could even gather her designer handbag, two bailiffs stepped forward, their heavy hands gripping her shoulders and lifting her out of her seat. She let out a sharp, hysterical cry as she was hauled backward down the center aisle, her heels clicking uselessly against the marble floor until the heavy oak doors swallowed her away.
