Chapter 5 - Aunt Eleanor’s Dossier

"Welcome home, my brave girl," Eleanor said softly, her eyes shining with unshed tears as she stepped aside to let Clara enter the warm, brightly lit hallway.

Clara stood frozen in the doorway, staring at her aunt in utter astonishment. "Eleanor? What are you doing here? I thought you moved to Boston years ago after the falling out with Arthur."

"I never left the state, Clara," Eleanor replied gently, closing the door against the howling wind outside. She guided Clara toward a comfortable sofa near a crackling stone fireplace, taking the infant with practiced, tender care so Clara could finally rest her aching arms. "I’ve been living in the cottage behind the estate woods, watching Helen slowly turn that house into a gilded cage for everyone foolish enough to stay."

Detective Vance tipped his hat respectfully. "I'll leave you two to catch up. The perimeter is secure, and a state prosecutor is already preparing the warrants for Helen and Arthur's financial accounts. We'll talk in the morning, Mrs. Sterling."

As the front door clicked shut behind the detective, Clara leaned back against the cushions, letting the warmth of the fire soak into her bones. She looked at Eleanor, who was rocking the baby with a quiet, practiced rhythm.

"You're the one who sent the video to the whistleblower portal," Clara said softly.

"I've been collecting evidence on Helen's cruelty for five years, waiting for the right moment to dismantle her little empire," Eleanor said, setting the teacup down on the low oak table. She reached over and picked up a thick, leather-bound folder stamped with legal seals, placing it gently on Clara’s lap. "When she put your baby in that dog enclosure today, she crossed a line she can never come back from. But this folder contains something even bigger."

Clara frowned, flipping open the cover of the heavy leather binder. Inside were bank statements, property deeds, and a signed medical affidavit dated twenty-five years ago.

"What is this?" Clara asked, scanning the columns of numbers.

"That, my dear, is proof that Helen didn't just steal control of your father's estate after your mother passed away," Eleanor said, her voice dropping into a hard, determined whisper. "She forged the death certificate of your mother’s primary corporate trust to make you believe you were penniless. And tomorrow morning, we're going to use it to take back everything she owns."
