Chapter 8 - The Trojan Horse

Back at the towering downtown skyscraper of Horizon Global Logistics, the high-security executive IT floor was usually a temple of quiet, sterile efficiency.

At 8:15 AM, that quiet was shattered by a chorus of piercing, high-pitched alarm klaxons.

"Sir! We have a catastrophic breach on the primary database!" a junior network engineer yelled across the open-plan floor, his fingers flying frantically across his keyboard as multiple monitors flashed blinding crimson warning banners.

At the end of the row, Chief Technology Officer Marcus Vance—wait, no, the Horizon security lead—bolted out of his glass-walled office, shouting over the noise. "Isolate the node! Disconnect the main server from the external grid immediately!"

"We can't!" another engineer screamed, sweat pouring down his forehead. "The core encryption cipher isn't coming from an external IP address! It's executing from an internal administrative backdoor... originating directly from the executive tablet assigned to Sophia Bennett!"

Across the room, on the main wall-mounted display screen, a massive file directory directory began unspooling automatically, streaming confidential financial ledgers, wire transfer receipts to offshore political campaigns, and illicit shipping manifests detailing decades of illegal cargo smuggling straight onto the public federal regulatory network.

It wasn't a standard corporate hack. It was an automated, dead-man's-switch data dump programmed to execute the exact moment Sophia gained administrative control of the Bennett estate.

She hadn't just double-crossed Daniel.

She had used Victor Thorne to destroy Daniel, and she was using Daniel's intelligence to destroy Victor.
