Chapter 10 - The Dawn of the Rossi Name

Three weeks later, the morning air was crisp and autumn-cool as a sleek black town car pulled up to the private entrance of the Cleveland Clinic.
I stepped out of the vehicle, leaning lightly on Dominic’s arm for support, my ribs fully healed beneath a lightweight medical brace. The heavy bandages were gone, and though my movements were still measured and careful, the pain that had once threatened to consume me had faded into a dull, distant memory.
Inside the private luxury suite on the hospital’s top floor, my mother—Ellen—sat propped up in bed, looking stronger and healthier than she had in years, thanks to the world-class medical team Dominic’s private trust had flown in from Zurich.
When the door opened and she saw me standing there, flanked by Dominic and Enzo, her eyes widened in absolute shock.
“Elena… my sweet girl,” Ellen choked out, tears instantly flooding her eyes as she reached out trembling hands.
I hurried to the bedside, dropping into her arms and burying my face in her shoulder, letting the warm tears flow freely.
“I know everything, Mom,” I whispered softly, pulling back to look into her loving, tear-stained face. “I know why we hid. I know what Arthur Hayes did to keep me safe.”
Ellen closed her eyes, a massive weight lifting from her shoulders after decades of carrying a secret that had threatened to crush her. “I tried to protect you, Elena. From the syndicate, from Costa, from a past that would have swallowed you whole. I wanted you to have a normal life.”
“You gave me a life,” I replied, squeezing her hands gently. “And now… we don’t have to run anymore.”
She looked past my shoulder, her gaze meeting Dominic’s standing quietly near the doorway. The billionaire industrialist—the man who had hunted down an empire to protect his family—offered a respectful, reassuring nod.
“Thank you, son,” Ellen whispered, the word feeling completely natural on her tongue for the very first time.
Later that afternoon, as the town car carried us back toward the private airfield for the flight home to New York, I watched the Ohio countryside blur past the tinted window.

My hand rested comfortably in Dominic’s, our fingers interlocked, the heavy gold band gleaming in the golden autumn sunlight.
I wasn't a scared waitress dodging rent payments in Queens anymore. I was Elena Rossi. And no matter what shadows tried to creep out of the past, I knew I would never walk in the dark alone again.
