Chapter 10 - The Phantom Facility

"Agent Miller," I said, my voice shaking with a terrifying clarity as I stared down at the hospital notification on my phone screen. "We need to get downtown right now."

Miller looked up from the paperwork, reading the urgency in my eyes. "What did you find?"

"Brandon didn't just steal money and forge deeds," I said, grabbing my car keys from the counter. "He set up a dummy medical corporation to bypass local jurisdiction entirely. They've just initiated an emergency transfer for my husband—the same man currently recovering from severe trauma in the ICU—moving him to a private, off-the-books facility controlled by Marcus Vance and his associates."

Before Miller could reply, the heavy front door swung open with a violent crash.

Standing in the doorway, flanked by two armed local police officers holding a pair of heavy steel handcuffs, was Brandon. His clothes were damp with morning dew, his hair wild and unkempt, and his face twisted into a mask of pure, unhinged desperation.

"You're too late!" Brandon shrieked, laughing hysterically as the officers shoved him hard against the hallway wall, snapping the cuffs onto his wrists. "You think arresting me stops anything? The papers are filed! The transfers are approved! By the time you figure out where they took him, there won't be a damn thing left of any of you!"
