Chapter 6 - The Breach at Fort Belvoir

The name of the installation hung in the air like a detonated flash-bang. Fort Belvoir. Home to specialized intelligence commands, logistics hubs, and the military police battalion that held jurisdiction over the surrounding sectors.
“He stole what?” My voice didn't sound like my own; it was thin, sharp, and cut through the quiet air of the presidential suite with frantic disbelief. “Alexander, my car wasn't parked in the driveway more than twenty minutes. How could he possibly access your staff vehicle?”
Alexander was already moving, his broad shoulders squared as he snatched his service jacket from the back of the velvet armchair and shoved his arms into the sleeves with military precision. His face was a mask of cold, unyielding granite, completely stripped of any personal warmth.
“My driver stepped away for less than three minutes to coordinate the perimeter logistics with local precinct dispatch,” Alexander said, his voice clipped and dangerous as he secured his rank insignia. “Lucas must have slipped through the rear passenger door while your father was blocking my view in the foyer. The briefcase contained unclassified briefing schedules, logistics audits for upcoming humanitarian medical deployments, and a backup encrypted hard drive containing routine personnel rosters.”
“A hard drive?” My heart slammed violently against my ribs. “Alexander, those rosters have active-duty physician deployments, operational itineraries—if he hands that over to some disgruntled local reporter or tries to weaponize it to prove a conspiracy against his precious family...”
“He won't get past the outer gate,” Alexander interrupted, grabbing his phone to issue a direct command to the brigade duty officer. “But the fact that he attempted it changes the legal landscape entirely. This is no longer a domestic property dispute regarding your destroyed uniform. This is an unauthorized intrusion, theft of military property, and an active attempt to compromise operational security.”
He paused, his thumb hovering over the call button, his dark eyes locking onto mine with an intense, burning protectiveness.
“Emily, listen to me. Your brother has just crossed the line from a spoiled civilian into a hostile combatant against federal jurisdiction. Are you prepared for what comes next?”
I stared at him, the weight of twelve years of emotional abuse, betrayal, and relentless belittlement crashing down on my chest. They had never seen me as a daughter, a doctor, or an equal. They saw me as a pawn in their social chess game, and when I refused to play, they tried to burn my entire life to the ground.
“Do whatever you have to do, General,” I said, my voice hardening into cold, absolute steel. “I am done protecting people who would gladly destroy me to save their own reputation.”

Alexander nodded once, a grim acknowledgment passing between us, and hit the speaker line. “Duty Officer, this is General Hale. Code Black on Gate Four approach. Intercept, detain, and secure the civilian vehicle inbound immediately. Use whatever force is necessary.”
