Chapter 6 - The Breach of the North Wing

The metallic clack of the chambered round echoed sharply within the high-ceilinged quiet of the north wing suite, a stark, lethal reminder that the opulent sanctuary had instantly transformed into a combat zone.
Emma froze by the mahogany desk, her fingers still trembling from the weight of Adrian's revelation. Her mind raced, paralyzed for a fraction of a second by the sudden descent of chaos. But the harsh, pulsing amber light of the intercom panel hammered away any lingering disbelief.
“Adrian, wait,” Emma gasped, stepping forward as he pivoted toward the heavy double doors. “If they're armed and they bypassed the perimeter grid, they aren't standard thugs. They're professionals.”
“Which means they came looking for a fight,” Adrian replied, his voice chillingly level. He strode over to the entryway, checked the reinforced deadbolts, and positioned himself sideways against the interior wall just out of the line of sight from the hallway. He spared a single, sharp glance back at her. “Stay behind the architectural column by the bathroom door. Do not move, and do not make a sound.”
Before Emma could argue, a muffled, concussive thud vibrated through the floorboards, followed immediately by the sickening groan of heavy timber splitting under high-pressure force.
The main door to the suite shuddered. A second impact followed—harder, deliberate, and backed by mechanical brute force.
Adrian raised his weapon, his breathing slow and measured, every muscle in his frame coiled like a spring.
With a deafening crash, the heavy oak double doors blew inward, splintering into a cloud of dust and flying debris. Two figures clad entirely in matte-black tactical gear surged across the threshold, weapons raised and sweeping the room with disciplined military precision.
The lead operative stepped fully into the suite, his tactical flashlight cutting a blinding white beam through the indoor gloom.
He never saw the strike coming.
Adrian moved with terrifying, explosive speed, closing the distance in a heartbeat. He smashed the heavy butt of his firearm directly into the operative’s visor, sending the man crashing hard against the walnut console table.
As the second intruder pivoted to fire, Adrian dropped into a low sweep, kicking the operative’s boots out from under him and driving the man’s chest into the Persian rug with bone-crushing impact.
Both men were unconscious before they could draw a second breath.

Adrian stood over them, chest heaving slightly, his grip unyielding. He didn't drop his guard. He looked past the wreckage of the doorway out into the dimly lit hallway, his eyes narrowing as a slow, deliberate pair of footsteps approached from the shadows.
