Chapter 5 - The Fall of the House of Mercer

The rain washed over Mercer’s face, mixing with cold sweat as he stared down the barrel of Luca’s gun. His breathing came in shallow, ragged gasps, his aristocratic composure entirely obliterated.

"You... you can't do this," Mercer choked out, his fingers clawing weakly at Luca’s wrist. "If I die, the commission... the entire syndicate will come down on your head like an avalanche. You won't live to see sunrise."

"Let them come," Luca said, his voice flat, devoid of any mercy or hesitation. "I built my empire out of the wreckage of men like you, Adrian. I didn't survive twenty years in this underworld by being afraid of ghosts."

Elena walked slowly toward them, her heels clicking rhythmically against the wet pavement. She stopped two feet away, looking down at the syndicate boss who had threatened her family, her life, and everything she had built.

"You thought I was weak because I chose peace over violence," Elena said quietly, her dark eyes flashing with cold fire. "You thought because I balance books and wear soft clothes that I couldn't survive a storm. But you forgot one fundamental rule of finance, Mr. Mercer."

Mercer glared at her through bloodshot eyes. "What... what rule?"

"Every asset has a liability," Elena replied smoothly. "And today, your liabilities finally exceeded your net worth."

She turned her gaze to Luca. "Leave him for the federal marshals. Miller already sent the encrypted ledger package to the DOJ's organized crime division five minutes ago. By dawn, Mercer's entire organization will be facing RICO indictments with no bail."

Luca stared at Elena for a long moment, watching the fierce, unyielding intelligence that burned beneath her calm exterior. A slow, genuine smile broke across his hard features—not the cold, predatory smirk he wore for his enemies, but something real, something deep and fiercely devoted.

"As you wish, Comptroller," Luca murmured softly.

Without warning, Luca slammed the butt of his pistol against the side of Mercer’s head. The older man’s eyes rolled back, and he collapsed like a broken doll onto the wet asphalt, unconscious and defeated.

Luca straightened his suit jacket, stepping over Mercer’s inert form, and reached out to take Elena’s hand. Her fingers were warm, steady, and completely unshakeable.

"Come on," Luca said, guiding her back toward the armored Suburban as the distant wail of police sirens began to echo through the rainy Manhattan night. "Let's go home."

As the black SUV rolled out of the abandoned rail yard, leaving the wreckage of Mercer’s empire behind in the rain, Elena rested her head back against the leather headrest, closing her eyes for the first time in twenty-four hours.

The blood on her dress was gone, washed away by the night and the fire of a war they had won together. But the bloodline of their alliance had been forged in iron, and no one would ever dare challenge it again.
