Chapter 10 - The Unseen Partner

The text message notification lit up the cracked screen of Daniel’s phone with a single, chilling line of text:

The game isn't over, Daniel. Andrew was just the middleman. See you at the shareholder meeting tomorrow.

Daniel stared at the words, the warmth of the coffee instantly forgotten as a fresh wave of ice water flooded his veins.

Shareholder meeting.

Whitmore Holdings’ emergency quarterly board meeting was scheduled for 10:00 AM the next morning at the corporate headquarters in downtown Los Angeles. Every major investor, board member, and minority stakeholder would be in attendance to vote on the emergency restructuring of the company’s remaining assets.

If Andrew was just the middleman... who was the primary shareholder pulling the strings behind Vanguard Holdings?

Daniel unlocked his phone, dialing Mac’s secure number—the digital forensic specialist who had helped uncover the corporate trail.

“Mac,” Daniel said the moment the line connected, his voice sharp and urgent. “I need you to pull every hidden beneficial ownership record on Vanguard Holdings before sunrise. Dig deeper than the Cayman filings. Look at the original parent trust established twenty years ago.”

Mac’s voice came back through the speaker, tight with immediate tension. “Twenty years ago? That predates Andrew’s involvement. That goes back to the founding era of Whitmore Holdings.”

“Just do it,” Daniel commanded, sliding into the driver’s seat of his SUV and slamming the door. “Someone else is sitting on the board. Someone who knew about Andrew’s faked death, Vanessa’s infiltration, and the embezzlement scheme from day one.”

“Consider it done,” Mac replied. “I’ll have the decrypted dossier sitting on your office terminal by 8:00 AM.”

Daniel dropped the SUV into drive, tires crunching over the gravel as he tore down the winding coastal driveway away from the mansion. The rising sun painted the Pacific in brilliant shades of orange and crimson, but as he sped back toward Los Angeles to face the corporate wolves waiting for him at headquarters, he knew the real war for Whitmore Holdings was only just beginning.
